Chicago needs a BGOC lodge

Your grandpa probably belonged to a Mason’s or Elk’s Lodge or one of the dozen or so other clubs that were popular back in the day. Those groups often turned away anyone who wasn’t a white Christian man. Maybe they had a separate auxiliary club for the wives of those men. It’s no shock that most of those clubs are gone.

Enter BGOC. Those old groups lobbied for a fantastic tax code. We saw an opportunity to create a progressive, inclusive space for almost everyone* with some tax-free benefits. Want to start a member’s only club focused on mutual aid and volunteering with your friends? How about a bar or cafe with a social justice reading room? To start, take a look at How to Start a New Lodge and see if you’re up for it.

*except racists, misogynists and bigots. You can’t join.
